Six-Week-Old Puppies Left on a Dirty Mattress Turned Out to Be Older Than Rescuers Initially Thought
A kind-hearted resident from Gary, Indiana, was always committed to giving his dog a joyful life, which included regular walks, one of his dog’s favorite pastimes. But not all people are as compassionate as this man. Some don’t prioritize their dogs or even do the unthinkable, like abandon, neglect, or abuse them. One day, during the man and his dog’s stroll, their perfect day turned sour when they stumbled upon some discarded mattresses. Upon closer inspection, the man was dismayed to discover six abandoned puppies lying on them. This sight saddened and angered him, but he knew he couldn’t waste time in despair.
He quickly composed himself and reached out to Silverstray Social, an organization dedicated to rescuing animals and supporting pet families. The call came unexpectedly on the Friday evening before Memorial Day, and the responders were unprepared for what they found. Layce, from Silverstray Social, initially thought the puppies were about two months old based on their size, but a thorough examination proved otherwise.
“What everybody thought [were] 6- to 8-week-old puppies ended up being 6-month-old puppies … That’s how malnourished they were,” explained Kelly Carey, the founder of Silverstray Social, in an interview with The Dodo.
Before moving to their new temporary homes, the puppies spent a night with a generous volunteer. According to a Facebook post by the Guardians of the Green Mile, all the puppies received medical checks and were placed in foster homes.
All it took was one compassionate individual to change their fortunes, and now the future looked bright. Soon, these puppies will enjoy walks and affection from their new families and live the life that they’ve always deserved.
