She positioned herself discreetly near the woman’s porch, hoping for a meal, and instead, she encountered the woman herself
A homeless animal may have a long and illustrious history. We can only rely on what we observe because a dog is unable to communicate as we do. Her story was clear for one Pit Bull. It was a lengthy narrative based on agony and abandonment, but her tale wasn’t finished yet.

Lakita was discovered on a pile of garbage near a house lady’s porch. She stank to high heaven. The woman who found her believed she was so close to death that the rescuers had only a short amount of time to reach her. They, as expected, rushed over.
The dog was scrawny and uncommunicative. She appeared to be beaten. Was anybody ever nice to her? Our hearts were broken as one of the rescuers, Tracy, says in the film,
“Oh, she reeks of rotting from the inside out.” How did anyone allow this beautiful creature to deteriorate so much?
But then, Lakita rose to her feet. It appeared that she recognized the significance of the visitors’ help. There was now a flame in the dog’s eyes that spurned them on. She realized–for the first time in her life–that she had meaning and that may have been the case.

Lakita was able to put on weight rapidly after eating frequently throughout the day. Her coat glistened! The best part was that Lakita wanted to play! She felt confident and content. Lakita was now in good condition, and she required a permanent home. Her future parents, Sebastian and Ashtyn, observed her in a cute tutu and could not resist photographing her.

We read a lot of similar stories because Pit Bulls and Pit mixes are more likely to end up in shelters than any other breed. They are, without a doubt, the first to be put down in kill shelters. People still believe that all Pits are dangerous and should not be rehomed with children. That they don’t deserve good homes.
Pit Bulls aren’t bad dogs! Many are just a product of bad owners. Even cities that have a ban on Pit Bulls are realizing this, and are working to change legislation. We need to do our part as well. Please share stories like this one. Lakita got her happily ever after. ALL dogs deserve that too.
