Rescued dogs start a new chapter in foster care after being discovered in a suitcase
In an uplifting turn of events, a mother dog along with her five newborn puppies, who faced the grim fate of abandonment in a sealed suitcase, have now been given a chance at a better life with a loving foster family. This distressing discovery was made just outside the Cleveland Fire Department. Swiftly intervening, Saving Grace Animals for Adoption, a committed non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue of dogs, ensured the safety and health of these vulnerable canines, offering them a fresh start in a nurturing environment.
The staff at Saving Grace were quick to respond after the suitcase was discovered, ensuring the immediate safety and health of the mother and her puppies. Upon rescue, the canines were found to be in surprisingly good health, considering their precarious situation. They are now residing in a foster home that provides the warmth and care necessary for their recovery and preparation for future adoption.
Molly Goldston, the founder and executive director of Saving Grace, shared her insights into the frequency and sadness of such cases. “Abandonment cases are heartbreakingly common,” Goldston stated. “In fact, the same week we rescued these puppies, we encountered two crates full of puppies left next to our facility’s dumpster, and we also took in 10 chihuahuas from a partner shelter overwhelmed by an influx of animals.”
The non-profit is currently reaching out to the community for additional support. They urgently need more foster homes, volunteers, and financial donations to help manage the care for their current and future rescues. The organization is also looking for committed individuals or families willing to adopt and provide a permanent, loving home to these dogs.
“We do everything possible with the resources at hand to assist those in need,” Goldston explained. “It’s a challenging task, but the support of our community is essential in changing the lives of these dogs. Although we cannot save every dog, the impact we have on the ones we rescue is profound and lasting.”
