Paralyzed Rottweiler Abandoned Near a Dumpster Undergoes a Complete Transformation
Isabel Zapata and her friends were heartbroken when they discovered a neglected Rottweiler, whom they named Susanna. She was found in a dire state – malnourished, dehydrated, unable to walk, flea-infested, and abandoned near a dumpster in Florida, a notorious area for pet abandonment.
“It’s hard to comprehend the pain and torment she’s endured. Discarded like trash, she lies amidst the debris, rotting food, dirt, and discarded items,” expressed Yolanda Ramirez from Gulfstream Guardian Angels Rottweiler Rescue. “Her frail body, weakened and drained, is on the brink of giving up.”
Upon finding Susanna, Zapata recorded the rescue mission. They gently placed her on a green tarp to transport her to their vehicle. Amidst their anxiety and concern, they initially mistook the female dog for a male. Zapata, speaking into her phone, comforted Susanna, promising her immediate medical attention.
Zapata contacted Gulfstream Guardian Angels Rottweiler Rescue (GGARR), a volunteer group committed to rescuing Rottweilers. Upon viewing the video, Yolanda Ramirez, a co-founder of GGAR, was deeply moved.
Susanna was promptly taken to Mueller Animal Hospital to stabilize and diagnose her mobility issues.
After days of intensive care, Susanna started showing signs of life, indicating her will to survive to her rescuers.
Susanna expressed affection towards her carers, offering them kisses as she recuperated.
“Despite everything, Susanna is incredibly loving,” shares Yolanda.
Medical tests revealed that the three-year-old dog had arthritis and physical deformities in her legs, likely due to confinement in an undersized crate, leading to her disability. The team also surmised that she had been exploited as a breeding dog and abandoned once she fell ill.
The veterinary staff and the GGARR team united to help Susanna heal.
With medication and hydrotherapy, Susanna began to take her first steps!
The water therapy significantly improved her condition, and the love and care she received from her rescuers gave her renewed hope.
Today, Susanna is slowly learning to trust and be happy again. Her fondness for other dogs is evident, and she has begun to flash her heartwarming smile.
