Dog Lingers By Snow Cone Stand and Transforms Into Spectacular Breed

Imagine how hard it is for a stray dog to feel sick and alone, with no one to care for her. We can’t even fathom what this is like, but thankfully, kind people intervened for this dog in need of help. A Poodle named Babs was found wandering near a snow cone stand in Dayton, Texas. Without care or guidance, she had developed mange, her skin was inflamed and blotchy, and her fur was uneven and scruffy. Fortunately, her plight caught someone’s attention, and a call for help was quickly made. Responding to the call, local dog rescuer Kristin Erwin drove to the scene. Upon arrival, Erwin found Babs lying listlessly at the base of a porch. She immediately formulated a rescue plan.

“It was extremely hot out, so I decided to pull out my dog trap to get her more quickly,” Erwin explained to The Dodo. “I loaded it with sausage and other leftovers. I pulled away in my vehicle so she could approach it, and within seconds she was smelling around the trap and walked right in.”

With assistance from the organization ThisIsHouston, Erwin secured medical treatment for Babs and brought her into her own home, preparing for what she thought might be a challenging adjustment. However, Babs surprised her. “I didn’t know what to expect once I got her home,” Erwin remarked. “It turned out she was one of the sweetest dogs and truly only wanted attention and love. She was very affectionate and seemed very appreciative to be off the streets and out of the Texas heat. She quickly attached herself to us!”

Over the following weeks, Babs began to recover, blossoming into the lively, fluffy Poodle she was meant to be. Erwin was astounded by her transformation. “Comparing her day-one photos to current photos is just wild,” Erwin observed. “She looks like a completely different dog.” Eventually, Babs found a permanent home with a family who was ready to give her the love and stability she needed.

Today, Babs is thriving in her new environment. “She is living the good life,” Erwin shared. “She has a new fur sibling that she plays with and two human siblings … Her family adores her and can’t believe how sweet and gentle she is.” Babs no longer faces the challenges of life alone, surrounded instead by a family that cherishes her.
