After residing in a shelter for 653 days, its longest-term resident continues to hold onto dreams of having a home
In the picturesque state of Washington, Julie, a talented graphic designer, has found a rewarding way to give back to her community. She volunteers at the Benton-Franklin Humane Society, where she crossed paths with Snoopy, an aging, deaf dog with the dubious record as the shelter’s longest resident – a staggering 653 days and counting!
Snoopy’s story is bittersweet. A year ago, he was diagnosed with Cushing’s Disease, which sadly robbed him of his hearing and sight. Despite this, Julie forms a special connection with Snoopy during their time together in the shelter’s yard. This lovable senior pooch captured her heart with his cheerful demeanor, but she understood his adoption challenges due to his age and health complications. As Julie fondly recalls in a video, Snoopy finds joy in life’s simple pleasures – he loves his toys and blankets, often nuzzling into them for comfort.
While Snoopy remains in the shelter, the kindness of strangers has not been lost on him. People have generously donated items to make his kennel more comfortable, including a cozy orthopedic bed. However, despite these comforts, Snoopy’s advanced age and health issues make him an unlikely choice for potential adopters.
Veterinary experts believe that Snoopy could enjoy several more years of life with the proper treatment. But this treatment has its challenges – frequent vet visits and costly medication. Over his 653-day stay at the shelter, Snoopy has only had one potential adoption meeting, which unfortunately didn’t lead to a forever home.
As Snoopy’s tale continues, he remains at the shelter, patiently waiting for his forever family. Let’s help write the next chapter in Snoopy’s story by sharing it far and wide. Perhaps with our help, Snoopy’s tale will finally have the happy ending it deserves! For more information about this resilient pup, click here!
