Pebbles, the world’s oldest living dog and a devoted country music lover, has passed away at the age of 22

The Guinness World Records recently proclaimed the toy fox terrier Pebbles as the world’s oldest living dog, died at the age of 22.

On October 3, Bobby and Julie Gregory were at home in Taylors, South Carolina when their 13-year-old terrier, Josie, passed away peacefully.

“Pebbles’ family issued a statement saying she had a long and happy life full of love.”

Pebbles was born on March 28, 2000, in Long Island, New York.

The Gregorys wanted to adopt a dog before they spotted Pebbles, but they changed their minds once they saw her.

Upon meeting Bobby for the first time, Julie said, “She was barking and jumping so much that he was forced to pick her up and inspect her. It was love at first sight.”

The couple described Pebbles as “the home’s queen” and “a wild teen who likes to sleep all day and stay up all night.”

The dog, which weighed only four pounds, was content to listen to country music, sleep late, and lounge about when she wasn’t being showered with affection.

“Conway Twitty and Dwight Yokum are her two favorite country singers, and she likes to listen to them while she sleeps.”

In May 2022, Pebbles’s owners discovered that their dog was older than the previous world record holder, Toby Keith, after checking her birthdate.

“When Bobby sat on the couch and read about a dog setting a world record, friends and relatives sent him text messages and called him,” Julie said to Guinness World Records.

A look at the news revealed that TobyKeith had been awarded the title on May 17, 2022. Pebbles applied and was awarded the title at the time of her success. She was 22 years and 50 days old at the time.

The family ensured that Pebbles knew she was valued and cherished right up until the end.

For her 22nd birthday, instead of her regular diet of protein-rich cat food, she indulged in a stack of ribs, which a veterinarian recommended.

Pebbles died five months shy of her 23rd birthday.

“She was a once-in-a-lifetime companion, and we were blessed to have her as a pet and family member,” Julie said remembering her dog. “We will miss her deeply.”
