Maggie, a pregnant dog who was shot 17 times, has transformed into a source of joy and healing as a therapy dog

The world can be a harsh place, especially for a stray dog. Yet, despite facing unimaginable hardships, Maggie, fondly called the ‘Wunderdog,’ never lost her loving spirit.

Maggie was discovered in Lebanon, tied to a box, blind, pregnant, with a severed ear and 17 pellet gun wounds. This grim discovery, however, didn’t dampen Maggie’s spirit. Her resilience earned her the moniker, ‘Maggie the Wunderdog.’

Rescued and transported to the UK by the Wild at Heart Foundation, Maggie’s story caught the attention of Kasey Carlin. Captivated by Maggie’s tale, Kasey gave her a forever home.

“Maggie’s ability to trust and love humans, despite her traumatic past, is truly amazing,” Kasey says. “Her capacity for forgiveness is something I still struggle to comprehend.”

Maggie’s presence has been transformative for Kasey. Living with anxiety and depression, Kasey found solace and connection through Maggie. “She was the missing piece of my life,” Kasey confesses.

Taking Maggie on walks introduced Kasey to new people and opportunities. Kasey started the ‘Maggie the Wunderdog’ Instagram account inspired by their journey. Maggie now also serves as a therapy dog, spreading joy to needy people.

Maggie shares a unique bond with Mishka, Kasey’s other dog. Not only does Maggie help Mishka come out of her shell, but Mishka also guides Maggie, acting as her eyes.

Maggie’s days are filled with acts of kindness. She visits elderly homes, educates children about bullying and disability acceptance, and symbolizes love’s triumph over adversity. “She doesn’t need eyes because she’s learned to see with her heart,” Kasey proudly states.
